In a sündmuspõhine system, components or services emit events when something noteworthy happens. Other components, interested in these specific events, subscribe to them and react accordingly. This loose coupling between producers and consumers of events allows for greater flexibility, scalability, and responsiveness. For example, when a user makes a purchase, an "order placed" event is generated. Various other services, such as inventory management, shipping, and payment processing, can subscribe to this event and perform their respective tasks without direct communication with the purchasing service.

The benefits of adopting a sündmuspõhine approach include improved resilience, as a failure in one component doesn't necessarily bring down the entire system. It also facilitates easier integration of new services and functionalities. However, designing and managing complex sündmuspõhine systems can introduce challenges related to event ordering, ensuring exactly-once processing, and debugging distributed workflows. Common technologies and patterns associated with this paradigm include message queues, event buses, and stream processing frameworks.
