Sähkövastuksena refers to the Finnish term for an electrical resistor. An electrical resistor is a passive two-terminal electronic component that implements electrical resistance as a circuit element. In circuits, resistors are used to reduce current flow, adjust signal levels, to divide voltages, bias active elements, and terminate transmission lines, among other uses. The flow of electrons (which is electric current) through a conductor is hindered by the conductor's resistance. Resistors are used in electronic circuits to control the amount of current flowing through them. This control is achieved by exploiting the property of resistance, which is measured in ohms (Ω).
The fundamental law governing the relationship between voltage, current, and resistance is Ohm's Law, stated as
