A sähkösauna, often translated as an electric sauna, is a type of sauna that uses an electric heater to warm the sauna room. This contrasts with traditional wood-burning saunas which rely on a wood-fired stove. The electric heater, known as a kiuas, is typically a metal box containing heating elements that are covered by stones. When the sauna is in use, the heating elements heat the stones, which in turn radiate heat into the room. Water can be ladled onto the hot stones to produce steam, a process known as löyly, which increases the humidity and perceived heat.
Sähkösaunas are popular in many parts of the world, particularly where wood is not readily available or
