Sytytyscoil, often referred to as an ignition coil, is a crucial component in the ignition system of gasoline-powered internal combustion engines. Its primary function is to transform the low voltage from the vehicle's battery into the high voltage necessary to create an electric spark across the spark plug gap. This spark ignites the air-fuel mixture within the combustion chamber, driving the engine's power stroke.

The ignition coil operates on the principle of electromagnetic induction. It typically consists of two coils of wire wrapped around a common iron core. The primary coil has fewer turns of thicker wire, while the secondary coil has many more turns of thinner wire. When the vehicle's control unit signals to interrupt the flow of current to the primary coil, the collapsing magnetic field induces a significantly higher voltage in the secondary coil. This high voltage is then delivered to the spark plug via a spark plug wire or directly through a coil-on-plug design.

A malfunctioning ignition coil can lead to various engine performance issues. These may include engine misfires, rough idling, a decrease in fuel efficiency, a loss of power, and illuminated check engine lights. In severe cases, a completely failed ignition coil can prevent the engine from starting altogether. Diagnosis often involves testing the coil's resistance and its ability to produce a spark.
