Sydänläppiin is a Finnish term that translates to "heart valves" in English. These structures are crucial components of the heart, ensuring the unidirectional flow of blood. The human heart has four main valves: the mitral valve, the tricuspid valve, the aortic valve, and the pulmonary valve. Each valve plays a specific role in preventing blood from flowing backward into the chambers it has already left.

The mitral valve is located between the left atrium and the left ventricle, while the tricuspid valve is situated between the right atrium and the right ventricle. These are often referred to as the atrioventricular valves.
