Svettlösningar, or sweat solutions, refers to the liquids expelled by sweat glands in the skin of mammals. This process, known as sweating or perspiration, is primarily a thermoregulatory mechanism designed to cool the body. When the body's temperature rises, sweat glands are stimulated to release a saline solution onto the skin's surface. As this liquid evaporates, it absorbs heat from the body, thereby lowering its temperature.

The composition of sweat varies but typically includes water, electrolytes like sodium chloride, potassium, and magnesium, as well as urea and lactic acid. The concentration of these components can be influenced by factors such as hydration levels, diet, and environmental conditions. While thermoregulation is the primary function, sweat also plays a role in excreting waste products and can contribute to skin hydration.

Humans have millions of sweat glands distributed across their bodies, with higher concentrations in areas like the forehead, palms, and soles. There are two main types of sweat glands: eccrine and apocrine. Eccrine glands are found all over the body and produce a watery sweat responsible for cooling. Apocrine glands, located primarily in the armpits and groin, produce a thicker, milky sweat that, when broken down by bacteria on the skin, can contribute to body odor. The amount of sweat produced can vary significantly, from a barely perceptible amount to profuse sweating during intense physical activity or in hot climates.
