Sujuvus is a fictional mineral described in the Worldbuilding Encyclopedia as a luminescent silicate found in hydrothermal veins on the fictional planet Valara IV. The name sujuvus is derived from the Valaran language, meaning flowing light, a nod to the mineral’s glow and its association with liquid-like luster.

Discovery and classification: First reported in 2138 by the Lumen Geological Survey during Valara IV expeditions. Initial analyses misidentified it as a quartz variant, but diffraction and Raman spectroscopy later established sujuvus as a distinct mineral with an orthorhombic crystal system.

Physical properties: Sujuvus typically forms transparent to translucent prismatic crystals up to several centimeters in length. It has a vitreous to pearly luster, Mohs hardness around 6, and a refractive index of 1.74–1.82. Under short-wave ultraviolet light, it exhibits a pale blue-green fluorescence, which can persist for several seconds after excitation.

Occurrence and formation: Geologically, sujuvus forms in high-temperature hydrothermal veins within carbon-rich metamorphic belts. It co-occurs with calcite, fluorite, and cuprite and has been found at multiple locations on Valara IV, as well as in trace amounts in a recovered meteorite specimen.

Uses and significance: Researchers have explored sujuvus for potential photonic applications due to its stable luminescence. Laboratory studies consider its use in light-emitting devices and optical sensors, though no commercial material has yet emerged from current investigations.
