Sueves refers to a Germanic people who inhabited regions of Central and Eastern Europe during antiquity and the early Middle Ages. The term "Suebi" is an older and more common scholarly transliteration. They were not a single unified tribe but rather a confederation of various Germanic groups that shared linguistic and cultural similarities.

Historically, the Suebi are known for their migratory movements and their interactions with the Roman Empire. They participated in various Germanic incursions into Roman territory, often alongside other tribes. During the Migration Period, they established kingdoms in different parts of Europe. One of the most prominent was the Suebian Kingdom in Gallaecia, in what is now northwestern Spain and northern Portugal, which lasted for a significant period.

The Suebi were described by Roman writers like Julius Caesar and Tacitus, who noted their customs and military prowess. Their social structure was likely tribal, with warrior elites playing a significant role. Over time, the Suebi gradually assimilated into the populations of the regions they settled or were absorbed by other rising Germanic groups, and their distinct identity eventually faded.
