Subtileid is a term used in multimedia metadata to denote a unique identifier assigned to a subtitle track or subtitle resource. It serves as a stable reference within a video project, streaming manifest, or content management system, enabling media players and editors to select, fetch, or replace subtitle tracks reliably, even when file names or languages change.

A subtileid is intended to be unique within its context, which can be a single video file, a library, or a broader content catalog. The identifier itself may be formatted as a UUID, a numeric ID, or a human-readable slug, depending on the system. Subtileid is distinct from language codes; language information is typically stored as separate metadata.

In practice, subtileids appear in metadata schemas, streaming manifests, subtitle management interfaces, and content delivery pipelines. A common design approach is to assign the same subtileid across all localized versions of a subtitle, while language and region are tracked separately. This supports consistent tracking of the same subtitle source across multiple languages and formats.

Generation and lifecycle: when a new subtitle track is created, a subtileid is generated or assigned. If a subtitle is updated but remains the same track, the subtileid may be retained to preserve continuity; if the update constitutes a new track, a new subtileid may be issued according to workflow rules.
