Subpubic is an anatomical directional term used to describe structures located beneath the pubic bone or pubic symphysis in the pelvis. The word is derived from Latin, with sub- meaning under and pubicus meaning pubic. In clinical and anatomical contexts, subpubic applies to various features or measurements that lie in the region inferior to the pubic bone, including the anterior portion of the pelvic floor.

One of the most common uses of the term is in reference to the subpubic angle, also known as the pubic arch angle. This angle is formed by the inferior rami of the two pubic bones and is a key measurement in pelvic assessments. In humans, the subpubic angle tends to be wider in females and narrower in males, reflecting sex-based differences in pelvic morphology. However, there is substantial individual variation, and angles can overlap across sexes.

The subpubic region also informs descriptions of pelvic and perineal anatomy. Clinically, this area lies anterior to the pelvic outlet and includes portions of the urogenital region and related soft tissues. In anthropology and forensic science, measurements taken in the subpubic region—such as the subpubic angle and the subpubic concavity of the inferior pubic ramus—are used as part of the suite of indicators for sex estimation in skeletal remains.
