stygi
Stygi is a linguistic root and combining form derived from the Greek mythological river Styx. In English and other languages, it most commonly appears as stygi- or in the derivative adjective Stygian. The core association is with Styx and the underworld, and by extension with darkness, gloom, or foreboding.
The most familiar usage is in the literary adjective Stygian, which describes extreme darkness or an atmosphere
