stvaraju

Stvaraju is the third-person plural present tense form of the verb stvarati in Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, and Montenegrin. It means “they create” or “they are creating.” The verb is imperfective, describing ongoing or repeated creation; its perfective counterpart is stvoriti, used for a completed act (e.g., stvorili su).

Origin and morphology: The root stvar- derives from the noun stvar meaning “thing” or “creation,” itself from Proto-Slavic *stvarъ, related to cognates in other Slavic languages. The third-person plural present ending -aju is a standard marker for this person and tense in these languages.

Usage: Stvaraju typically takes a direct object in the accusative to specify what is being created, for example, “stvaraju nove ideje” (they create new ideas) or “stvaraju posao” (they create jobs). It can appear with a subject omitted when the context is clear, as in “Stvaraju se novi projekti” (new projects are being created). It is used to describe ongoing production, development, or formation rather than a completed result.

Examples: “Oni stvaraju tehnologije budućnosti.” (They are creating technologies of the future.) “Danas stvaraju mnogo proizvoda.” (Today they are creating many products.)

Notes: The form is widely used across the major South Slavic languages with the same meaning. It should not be confused with the perfective stvoriti, which denotes a completed creation. Related forms include stvaram (I create) and stvaramo (we create), as well as stvara (he/she/it creates).
