Stuudiosüsteemideni, often referred to as studio systems, represent a hierarchical structure within the film industry that dominated Hollywood for a significant period, particularly from the late 1920s through the 1950s. These major studios, such as Warner Bros., Paramount, MGM, 20th Century Fox, and RKO, operated as integrated conglomerates. They controlled nearly every aspect of filmmaking, from the development of screenplays and the casting of actors to the production, distribution, and exhibition of films.

A key characteristic of the studio system was its vertical integration. Studios owned their own production facilities, sound stages, and often vast backlots. Furthermore, they owned or had exclusive contracts with a stable of actors, directors, writers, and technicians, known as "talent." This allowed them to maintain tight control over creative output and ensure a steady stream of productions. Actors were often under long-term contracts, working on whatever projects the studio assigned them, and their careers were meticulously managed.

The studio system generated a consistent output of films, catering to a wide audience with various genres. This model provided stability for workers and a reliable source of entertainment for the public. However, it also limited the creative freedom of artists, who were bound by studio policies and commercial considerations. The rise of independent filmmaking and antitrust rulings, most notably the Paramount Decree of 1948, which forced studios to divest their theater chains, gradually led to the decline of the classic studio system. While its monolithic structure has largely disappeared, its influence on the organization and economics of filmmaking remains significant.
