Stereografier refers to the creation and study of stereoscopic images, also known as stereograms or 3D images. These images are designed to be viewed in a way that creates an illusion of depth, making a flat two-dimensional image appear three-dimensional. This effect is achieved by presenting two slightly different images of the same scene, one for each eye, similar to how human binocular vision works. When these two images are viewed correctly, the brain fuses them into a single perception with depth.

The most common method of creating stereograms involves taking two photographs of a subject from slightly different vantage points, mimicking the distance between a person's eyes. These photographs are then presented side-by-side, either printed on paper, displayed on a screen, or incorporated into specialized viewing devices. Viewing methods vary, including simple parallel viewing or cross-eyed viewing for free viewing, or the use of stereoscopes and anaglyph glasses (red and cyan lenses) for other forms of presentation.

Stereografier has applications in various fields, including photography, art, education, and entertainment. Early pioneers like Charles Wheatstone and David Brewster developed early stereoscopes in the 19th century. Today, stereoscopic imaging continues to evolve with digital technology, finding its way into 3D movies, virtual reality, and augmented reality experiences. The underlying principle remains the same: leveraging the brain's natural ability to perceive depth through binocular disparity.
