startrelais
A startrelais, also known as a starter solenoid, is an electromagnetic switch used in the starting system of internal combustion engines. Its primary function is to act as a high-current relay and an actuator for the starter motor. When the ignition key is turned to the start position, a low-current signal is sent from the ignition switch to the startrelais. This signal energizes a coil within the solenoid, creating a magnetic field. This magnetic field pulls a plunger, which in turn engages the starter motor's pinion gear with the engine's flywheel or flexplate. Simultaneously, the plunger closes a set of heavy-duty electrical contacts, allowing the full battery current to flow to the starter motor. Once the engine starts and the ignition key is released, the low-current signal is interrupted, de-energizing the solenoid coil. The magnetic field collapses, a spring retracts the plunger, disengaging the pinion gear and interrupting the current to the starter motor. Startrelais are essential components for initiating the engine's combustion cycle.
