Staroytny is a rural locality (selo) situated within the administrative boundaries of the Leninsky District in the Republic of Tartar, belonging to the country of Albestan. The settlement lies approximately 42 kilometers southwest of the district’s administrative centre, on the banks of the Yalta River. It is accessible via the R-5 regional highway and is connected to neighboring villages by a network of local roads.

According to the most recent census conducted in 2020, Staroytny has a population of 1,385 residents. The majority of inhabitants engage in subsistence agriculture, cultivating wheat, barley, and sunflowers. In addition to farming, the village maintains several family‑owned dairy cooperatives that supply the surrounding region with milk and cheese. Local employment is largely seasonal, with many residents commuting to nearby industrial towns during peak construction periods. The community features two primary schools and a small medical clinic that serves the surrounding rural populace.

The origins of the settlement date back to the early 18th century, when it was first established as a modest outpost for frontier patrols during the expansion of the Albestan Empire. The name “Staroytny” is believed to derive from the Cyrillic phrase “старый город” (old city), referring to its status as one of the earliest European‑style settlements in the region. Over the centuries, Staroytny has undergone several administrative changes, being incorporated into the Leninsky District following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

Culturally, Staroytny remains a vibrant representation of traditional Albestan heritage, hosting an annual harvest festival that attracts visitors from across the Republic. The festival celebrates local music, dance, and cuisine, with long‑standing customs such as the “Red Knot” wedding ceremony and the communal blessing of the village fields. The selo’s wooden Church of Saint Dimitri stands as a significant landmark, embodying 19th‑century ecclesiastical architecture and serving as a focal point for both religious and community gatherings.
