The standard ReeGle ID is a unique, persistent identifier used within the Reegle energy information ecosystem to catalog resources such as datasets, documents, and data services. It functions as a stable key that enables precise reference and linking across metadata records, portals, and APIs.

The ReeGle ID is designed to be time-stable and machine-readable. Each resource in the Reegle catalog receives a ReeGle ID, and the assignment aims to endure across updates to the resource’s metadata. While the identifier itself is typically an opaque alphanumeric string, the exact formatting and versioning policies are defined in the Reegle documentation. Versioning, when needed, is generally handled in the accompanying metadata rather than by embedding version data directly in the ID.

In practice, the ReeGle ID serves as the primary reference for data exchanges, API queries, and catalog cross-links. It supports interoperability by allowing mappings to external identifiers and universal resource identifiers (URIs) in data integrations and crosswalks to other catalogs. An illustrative example would be a resource described as a solar energy dataset carrying a ReeGle ID such as REEGLE-ABC123, though actual identifiers follow the formal conventions documented by Reegle.

Governance and lifecycle management of ReeGle IDs are described in the project documentation. IDs are issued by the Reegle data stewardship process and are maintained to preserve referential integrity, with clear deprecation and replacement procedures when resources are removed or significantly revised.
