Standardlager, literally “standard bearing” in German, is a term used to describe rolling-element bearings manufactured to standardized dimensions and specifications defined by technical standards (such as ISO, DIN, or JIS). These standards specify bore diameters, outer diameters, widths, tolerances, clearance classes, and mounting features, enabling interchangeability across manufacturers and machinery.

Common types included under standardlager are radial ball bearings (including deep groove and angular contact bearings), cylindrical and needle roller bearings, spherical roller bearings, and thrust bearings. They are selected based on load capacity, rotational speed, alignment requirements, and operating environment. Lubrication and seals are often standardized or recommended by manufacturers.

Standardlager play a key role in engineering and maintenance because their interchangeability simplifies procurement, repair, and replacement. They support modular design and mass production, reducing inventory complexity and cost. In practice, engineers consult catalogues from bearing producers or standards bodies to identify the appropriate bore size, width, and internal clearance code for a given application. Standard bearings may be produced in various precision grades suited for different speeds and life expectations.

Differences with non-standard or engineered-to-order bearings: standardlager are designed for broad applicability and fast delivery, while non-standard bearings may be customized for unique loads, dimensions, or performance criteria, often with longer lead times and higher cost.
