Stalagmity is a term used to describe the natural formations that develop as stalagmites, which are mineral deposits that grow upward from the floor of a cave or other subterranean environment. The word "stalagmity" is a variation or misspelling of "stalagmite," but in some contexts, it may be used to refer broadly to similar mineral structures or as a synonym.

Stalagmites are created through the process of mineral deposition from dripping water. When water containing dissolved calcium carbonate or other minerals drips from the ceiling of a cave, it leaves behind tiny mineral deposits as the water evaporates or loses carbon dioxide.
