Stakeholdersinvestors is a term used to describe the groups that have a stake in a company through financial investment or other relationships. While the phrase is not standard in academic literature, it is sometimes used to emphasize the overlap between investors — those who provide capital and seek a financial return — and other stakeholders who are affected by the company’s actions.

Key categories of stakeholders include employees, customers, suppliers, communities, and governments, as well as the company itself. Investors form a subset of stakeholders and include shareholders, angel and venture capital investors, pension funds, banks, and other lenders. All investors have ownership or financial claims; however, not every stakeholder has a direct financial stake in the firm.

Corporate governance frameworks address how these groups influence strategy and oversight. The traditional view of shareholder primacy prioritizes investor returns, whereas stakeholder theory argues that sustainable success depends on considering a broader set of interests. In practice, many firms incorporate both perspectives, balancing profit with social, environmental, and governance objectives (ESG).

Practically, firms align incentives through board composition, executive compensation, disclosure, and stakeholder engagement. Reporting may include annual financial results alongside nonfinancial metrics such as workforce diversity, environmental impact, and community relations.

Critics note that balancing diverse interests can create trade-offs and measurement challenges. Proponents argue that integrating investor and stakeholder considerations can reduce risk and support long-term value creation.
