Medical syringes consist of a cylindrical barrel and a plunger, with a needle or catheter at the tip. They vary in size from about 0.5 mL to 60 mL. Most are sterile and disposable; some are reusable and require sterilization between uses. Common fittings include Luer slip and Luer lock. Sprayers used in farming and industry range from small hand-trigger units to backpack or cart-mounted machines. They comprise a reservoir, pump, hose, and nozzle that creates a spray. Nozzle type and pressure determine droplet size and coverage, affecting efficiency and drift. They are used to apply pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, or cleaning solutions, with attention to calibration, safety equipment, and regulatory guidelines.

Historically, the modern syringe emerged in the 19th century through the work of Pravaz and Wood, followed by the adoption of disposable plastic syringes in the mid-20th century. Sprayer technology has evolved with improved pumps and nozzles. Safety considerations include sterile handling for medical syringes and responsible chemical use for sprayers to minimize health and environmental risks.
