spiesz

Spiesz is a term that can refer to different topics, most commonly as an ASCII rendering of the Polish word śpiesz, the second-person singular imperative of the verb śpieszyć. The verb means to hurry or to hasten. Used as a command, śpiesz translates roughly as "Hurry!" or "Hurry up!". In standard Polish orthography the form is written with the diacritic as śpiesz; when diacritics are omitted, as in plain ASCII text, it appears as spiesz. The capitalized form Śpiesz may occur at the start of a sentence but is not ordinarily used as a proper noun.

Outside of this grammatical sense, Spiesz may occur as a surname or place name in Central Europe, though there is no widely cited person, location, or organization by that exact spelling in common English-language reference works.

Because diacritics are sometimes omitted in international contexts, the spelling spiesz can be encountered in non-Polish texts representing the same Polish word. In such cases the meaning remains the same as the imperative "hurry".
