A spiegelreflextelescoop, also known as a reflecting telescope, is an optical telescope that uses a mirror to reflect light and form an image. This is in contrast to a refractor telescope, which uses lenses to bend light. The primary optical element in a reflecting telescope is a concave mirror, typically made of glass or a similar material coated with a highly reflective substance like aluminum or silver. Light enters the telescope tube, strikes the primary mirror at the bottom, and is reflected upwards towards a secondary mirror. This secondary mirror is usually positioned to redirect the light path to the side of the telescope tube or back through a hole in the primary mirror, where an eyepiece or detector is located to observe the magnified image.
