Spektrisensori are devices designed to measure the spectral content of light, providing information about how light power or intensity is distributed across wavelengths. They can operate as single-channel instruments that deliver a spectrum over a defined range, or as imaging systems that capture spectral data for many image pixels, enabling spatial and spectral analysis simultaneously. In practice, a spektrisensor yields data such as spectral power distribution, color information, and wavelength-specific responses.

Most spektrisensors share a few core components. A dispersion element, such as a diffraction grating or a prism, separates incoming light into its constituent wavelengths. A detector array, typically CMOS or CCD, or an arrangement of photodiodes, records the light intensity at different wavelengths. Some designs use a set of narrowband filters or tunable filters to sample selected wavelength bands, while others use interferometric methods (for example Fabry-Pérot) for spectral discrimination. Calibration is essential to correct the spectral response and wavelength accuracy, enabling meaningful comparisons across devices. Key performance metrics include spectral range, spectral resolution (the smallest resolvable wavelength difference), wavelength accuracy, dynamic range, and noise characteristics.

Spektrisensorer are used in a wide range of applications. In imaging, multispectral and hyperspectral cameras collect spatially-resolved spectra for agriculture, mineralogy, environmental monitoring, and food quality assessment. In analytical contexts, portable spectrometers support material identification and chemical analysis. The technology continues to evolve toward smaller, cheaper, and higher-performance sensors suitable for consumer electronics, industrial automation, and scientific research.
