Spectrumfundamental is a term used in signal processing to describe the fundamental frequency component of a signal’s spectrum. In the context of Fourier analysis, for a strictly periodic signal with fundamental frequency f0, the spectrum consists of discrete lines at integer multiples of f0 (the harmonics), and the line at f0 is the spectrum fundamental. In practical analysis of real-world data, where signals may be non-periodic or affected by windowing, the spectrum fundamental is often used heuristically to denote the lowest significant peak in the magnitude spectrum, which frequently approximates the true fundamental frequency.
