Examples include first, second, third, and so on, or in numerical form, 1st, 2nd, 3rd. In Hungarian, sorszámokat are formed by adding specific suffixes to cardinal numbers. For instance, "egy" (one) becomes "első" (first), "kettő" (two) becomes "második" (second), and "három" (three) becomes "harmadik" (third). Beyond the first few, a general pattern emerges where the suffix "-ik" or "-adik" is added, for example, "negyedik" (fourth) from "négy" (four).

Sorszámokat are crucial for establishing order in various contexts. They are used in daily life, such as when describing someone's position in a race ("ő az első" - he is first), the order of events ("ez a második alkalom" - this is the second occasion), or in numbering systems like floors in a building or chapters in a book.
