Sisavino is a small municipality located in the Province of Pavia in the Lombardy region of northern Italy. It lies approximately 35 kilometres southeast of Milan and 18 kilometres southeast of the provincial capital, Pavia. The comune covers an area of 12.3 square kilometres and is situated at an elevation of 148 metres above sea level. As of 31 December 2021, the population was recorded at 1,735 residents, known locally as sisavinesi. The population density is relatively low, reflecting the rural character of the area.

The local economy is predominantly agricultural, with cultivated crops including cereals such as wheat and barley, along with vineyards that produce both white and red wines characteristic of the Lombard wine tradition. The presence of well-managed olive groves contributes to the production of local olive oil. Small-scale dairies and family-owned craft enterprises, such as artisanal cheese production, also play a role in the town’s economy. Tourism is modest but growing, with visitors drawn to the historic sites and the scenic surrounding countryside.

Historical records indicate that Sisavino has been inhabited since the Roman era, with archaeological evidence of Gallo-Roman settlements. The medieval period saw the construction of the Church of San Michele Arcangelo, whose bell tower remains a defining feature of the town’s skyline. In the late 14th century, the Battle of Sisavino took place during a local conflict between feudal lords, a fact commemorated in a small museum housed in an 18th‑century former town hall. The late 19th and early 20th centuries brought modest industrial development, mainly in textiles, though most of the industry subsequently declined in the latter half of the century.

Today, Sisavino maintains a blend of its traditional rural culture with modern infrastructure. The town has improved its connectivity to larger urban centres through a regional bus network and road upgrades, facilitating commuter movement to Milan and Pavia while preserving its heritage and environmental surroundings.
