Singlerefrigerant is a term used to describe a refrigeration system that utilizes only one type of refrigerant. This is in contrast to some systems that might use multiple refrigerants, either in a cascade or a blended form, to achieve specific thermodynamic properties or efficiencies. The simplicity of a single-refrigerant system often translates to easier maintenance, troubleshooting, and a more straightforward component selection process.

In a typical single-refrigerant system, the refrigerant undergoes a phase change cycle, absorbing heat in the evaporator and releasing it in the condenser. Common refrigerants used in such systems include R-134a, R-410A, and various hydrocarbons like propane (R-290) and isobutane (R-600a). The choice of refrigerant depends on factors such as the operating temperature range, desired efficiency, environmental regulations (like Global Warming Potential and Ozone Depletion Potential), and safety considerations.
