Silmäkudosten refers to the various tissues that make up the eye. These tissues work in concert to enable vision. The outermost layer of the eye is the cornea, a transparent, curved tissue that covers the iris and pupil. It helps to refract light as it enters the eye. Beneath the cornea is the sclera, the tough, white, fibrous outer layer of the eyeball that provides structural support and protection.

Inside the eye, the uvea is a vascular layer that includes the iris, the ciliary body, and the choroid. The iris is the colored part of the eye that controls the size of the pupil, regulating the amount of light entering the eye. The ciliary body produces aqueous humor, a fluid that nourishes the lens and cornea, and contains muscles that change the shape of the lens for focusing. The choroid is a layer rich in blood vessels that supplies oxygen and nutrients to the retina.

The retina is the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye. It contains photoreceptor cells, rods and cones, which convert light into electrical signals. These signals are then processed by other retinal neurons and transmitted to the brain via the optic nerve, allowing for the perception of sight. The lens, a transparent, biconvex structure located behind the iris and pupil, further focuses light onto the retina. Finally, the vitreous humor is a gel-like substance that fills the space between the lens and the retina, helping to maintain the eye's shape.
