Silmäluomeen is a Finnish term that translates to "eyelid" in English. The eyelids are protective folds of skin that cover the front of the eye. They serve several crucial functions, including shielding the eye from foreign objects, dust, and excessive light. Blinking, a rapid opening and closing of the eyelids, is a reflex that helps to moisten the surface of the eye with tears, remove irritants, and distribute tears evenly. The eyelids also play a role in regulating the amount of light that enters the eye.
