siikonkarbid
Silicon carbide, often referred to as carborundum, is a compound of silicon and carbon. Its chemical formula is SiC. It is an extremely hard, synthetic crystalline material. Silicon carbide was first synthesized by Jöns Jacob Berzelius in 1824. It is produced industrially by heating silicon dioxide (sand) and carbon (coke) in an electric resistance furnace at very high temperatures. This process is known as the Acheson process.
The unique properties of silicon carbide make it valuable in various applications. Its extreme hardness, comparable
