Signalmottak is a term used in Scandinavian technical literature to refer to the reception of signaling information or signals by a device or system. The word combines sign(al) and mottak, meaning reception. It is used across telecommunications, radio, and railway signaling to describe the portion of a system that captures and decodes transmitted signals for further processing.

In telecommunications and wireless systems, signalmottak denotes the receiver stage that gathers electromagnetic energy via an antenna, filters it, down converts it to an intermediate frequency, and demodulates and digitizes the signal for processing. Performance characteristics such as sensitivity, selectivity, impedance matching, and noise figure determine how reliably the signal is received in the presence of interference and noise.

In railway signaling, signalmottak describes the equipment on trains or at wayside sites that receives signaling information from dispatchers, interlocking, or trackside devices. Onboard and fixed-signaling subsystems use signalmottak to interpret signal aspects, speed commands, and safety instructions, contributing to train protection, braking calculations, and signaling compliance. Cab signaling and track-to-train communication systems are typical examples where reliable reception is critical.
