Sensoritöötlus, often translated as sensor processing, refers to the methods and techniques used to extract meaningful information from raw sensor data. Sensors are devices that detect and respond to some type of input from the physical environment, such as light, heat, motion, moisture, or pressure. The raw data collected by these sensors is often noisy, incomplete, or in a format that is not directly usable for decision-making or further analysis. Sensor processing aims to clean, interpret, and transform this raw data into a more useful representation.

This process typically involves several stages. Data acquisition is the initial step where sensors collect information. This is followed by data preprocessing, which can include filtering to remove noise, calibration to correct for sensor inaccuracies, and data fusion if multiple sensors are involved to combine their readings. Feature extraction then identifies relevant characteristics or patterns within the processed data. For example, in image processing, features might be edges, corners, or textures. Finally, interpretation or classification uses these features to make sense of the data, such as recognizing an object, detecting a specific event, or estimating a physical quantity. Applications of sensoritöötlus are widespread, found in robotics, autonomous vehicles, medical devices, industrial automation, and environmental monitoring systems.
