In practice, a seismilist analyzes seismic records, locates earthquakes, estimates magnitudes, and interprets seismic waves to infer Earth's interior structure and tectonic processes. Training typically includes a degree in geophysics, geology, or earth science, with hands-on experience in using seismographs and seismometers and in data processing. Fieldwork and computational analysis are common. Equipment includes seismic sensors and arrays, GPS for crustal motion, and specialized software for data analysis.
