Segovia is a city and municipality in the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain. It is the capital of the province of Segovia and lies on a high plateau above the Eresma river, near the Sierra de Guadarrama. The inhabitants are known as segovianos (masculine) or segovianas (feminine).

Segovia’s historic center preserves a blend of Roman, medieval, and Renaissance heritage. The best-known monument is the Roman aqueduct, built in the first two centuries CE, which brings water into the city without mortar and remains one of the most well-preserved ancient structures in the world. In 1985, the aqueduct and the surrounding old town were designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Other major landmarks include the Alcázar of Segovia, a fortress that rises over the city and whose construction spans from the 12th to the 15th centuries, and the Segovia Cathedral, a Gothic building completed in the 16th century. The city is also noted for its medieval walls and a rich ensemble of churches and palaces.

Economy and culture in Segovia are closely tied to tourism and traditional Spanish cuisine. The city is famous for cochinillo asado (roast suckling pig) and hosts cultural and religious festivals, including Holy Week processions, that reflect its historical heritage.
