Segmentvalued is an adjective used in mathematics to describe objects whose outputs are line segments, typically closed intervals, rather than single points. The most common instance is a segment-valued function, which assigns to each input a segment [a, b] on the real line with a ≤ b. For example, a function f: X → {[a(x), b(x)] : x ∈ X} might be written as f(x) = [a(x), b(x)]. Such representations capture uncertainty or variability in the output.

Segment-valued objects arise in several contexts. In interval analysis and robust computation, quantities are represented by intervals to express measurement error or imprecision. In set-valued analysis and fuzzy set theory, outputs may be intervals or more general convex sets; segments are the simplest nontrivial case. Segment-valued measures are an area of study where a measure assigns to each measurable set a closed interval [α(A), β(A)], rather than a real number.
