Schwimmhäuten, also known as webbing, are membranes of skin that connect the digits of an animal. They are most commonly found in aquatic or semi-aquatic species, where they function to increase the surface area of the feet or hands, thereby improving swimming efficiency.

The presence and extent of schwimmhäuten vary greatly among different animal groups. Birds, such as ducks, geese, and loons, possess fully webbed feet, enabling them to propel themselves through water with powerful strokes. Amphibians, like frogs and salamanders, also exhibit webbing, which aids in both swimming and maneuvering on slippery surfaces.

This adaptation allows these animals to effectively hunt, escape predators, and navigate their aquatic environments.
