Schaktmassor is a concept within the context of geology and mining engineering. The term is derived from the Swedish words "schakt," meaning "excavation" or "pit," and "massor," which refers to the masses or deposits being forming through mining activities. Schaktmassor can be understood as a large-scale deposit or accumulation of rock and mineral fragments extracted or formed during mining operations.

In the context of mining, the term schaktmassor describes the resulting pile of waste rock and tailings, a byproduct of extraction processes. Typically, the schaktmassor is produced as a consequence of removal or excavation of valuable deposits like coal, ore, or fossil fuels. Mine tailings, a type of schaktmassor, can have hazardous constituents that may pose environmental risks if not properly managed.

Varied approaches to mining have impacted the development and characteristic of schaktmassor over time.
