Sanjakbey, literally “bey of the sanjak,” was the title of the governor of a sanjak, an Ottoman administrative district. A sanjakbey held both civil and military authority within his jurisdiction, enforcing imperial law, collecting revenues, and commanding the local troops in times of war.
