sametový

Sametová is a Czech adjectival form meaning velvet. It is used to describe things literally made of velvet as well as figuratively to denote smoothness, softness, or gentleness in texture or character. The word agrees with the noun in gender: sametový (masculine), sametová (feminine), sametové (neuter). In everyday language it appears in references to fabrics and interior design, for example sametová látka (velvet fabric) or sametový povrch (velvet-like surface).

The most prominent use is in the phrase sametová revoluce, referring to the Velvet Revolution of 1989 in Czechoslovakia. This peaceful political movement led to the end of communist rule in the country, beginning with student demonstrations in November 1989 and culminating in broad negotiations between the government and civic groups.
