Samaväärsuste, often translated as equivalences, refers to a fundamental concept in mathematics and logic concerning relationships that share certain properties. These properties are reflexivity, symmetry, and transitivity. A relation is reflexive if every element is related to itself. It is symmetric if whenever element A is related to element B, then element B is also related to element A. Finally, a relation is transitive if whenever element A is related to element B and element B is related to element C, then element A is also related to element C.

When a relation satisfies all three of these properties, it is called an equivalence relation. Equivalence relations are crucial for partitioning sets into disjoint subsets called equivalence classes.
