Samanþéttingu refers to the process of condensation in Icelandic. It is a physical process where a substance in a gaseous state changes into a liquid state due to a change in temperature and/or pressure. This occurs when the gas molecules lose kinetic energy, slow down, and come closer together until they reach a point where the attractive forces between them become strong enough to hold them in a liquid form.

Condensation is the reverse of evaporation or vaporization. A common example of samanþéttingu is the formation of dew on grass overnight.
