Saamiksi is a term that can refer to several distinct Sami languages. The Sami are an indigenous people inhabiting the Arctic region of Sápmi, which encompasses parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. Historically, the Sami languages have been grouped into eastern and western branches, with various dialects within each. "Saamiksi" is often used informally as a general term to encompass any of these languages, although it is more specifically the name for one of the western Sami languages.

The western Sami languages are spoken in the western part of Sápmi. These include North Sami, Lule Sami, and South Sami, among others. North Sami is the most widely spoken of all Sami languages.
