Rõhulangus refers to the decrease in pressure that occurs as a fluid flows through a system. This phenomenon is a fundamental concept in fluid dynamics and is influenced by several factors, including friction, changes in velocity, and elevation.

When a fluid moves, it encounters resistance from the surfaces it flows over, such as the walls of pipes or channels. This resistance, known as friction, causes energy to be lost, which manifests as a drop in pressure. The rougher the surface, the greater the friction and thus the greater the pressure drop.

Changes in the velocity of the fluid also contribute to rõhulangus. According to Bernoulli's principle, in a steady flow of an incompressible fluid, an increase in the speed of the fluid occurs simultaneously with a decrease in pressure or a decrease in the fluid's potential energy. Conversely, a decrease in speed leads to an increase in pressure. This effect is noticeable in constricted sections of a pipe where the fluid must speed up, causing a temporary pressure drop.

Gravitational forces, particularly in vertical pipe sections, also play a role. As a fluid flows downwards, gravity assists the flow, potentially reducing the pressure drop. Conversely, when flowing upwards, gravity opposes the flow, increasing the pressure drop.

Understanding rõhulangus is crucial in various engineering applications. For instance, in designing pipelines for water, oil, or gas, engineers must account for pressure losses to ensure sufficient pressure reaches the destination. Similarly, in hydraulic and pneumatic systems, pressure drop affects the performance of actuators and other components. Minimizing rõhulangus often involves using larger diameter pipes, smoother materials, and avoiding unnecessary bends or constrictions.
