Ryhmäyhteisö is a Finnish term used in sociology, organizational studies, and education to describe a community formed by a group of people who share a common purpose, identity, or activity. The emphasis is on social interaction within a bounded group and on the development of shared practices, norms, and knowledge.

Core features include defined membership, common goals, agreed norms or rules, effective communication channels, coordination of activities, mutual support, and a sense of belonging. Relationships tend to be more intimate and stable than in loose networks, while not encompassing the same breadth as a larger community.

Ryhmäyhteisöt occur in a variety of settings: workplaces as project teams or professional communities, schools or universities through group work, hobby or interest groups, and online spaces organized around a topic. They can operate in person or digitally, and often rely on regular routines, meetings, or collaborative tools to sustain participation.

Relation to other concepts: the term overlaps with the broader concept of yhteisö (community) and with ryhmä (group). In Finnish scholarly literature it is sometimes used interchangeably with “community of practice” to describe groups that not only share knowledge but also develop collective competence through ongoing interaction.

Assessment and study of ryhmäyhteisö often involve approaches from social network analysis, participation metrics, and evaluations of social capital and collaborative outcomes.
