Rotomoldagem, also known as rotational molding or rotocasting, is a plastic manufacturing process used to produce hollow plastic parts. It involves heating a mold, typically made of aluminum, and then filling it with a measured amount of plastic powder or liquid. The mold is then rotated on two axes simultaneously, causing the plastic to melt and evenly coat the interior surface of the mold. As the mold continues to rotate, it is moved into a cooling station where it is chilled, solidifying the plastic into the desired shape. Once cooled, the mold is opened, and the hollow part is removed.

This process is well-suited for creating large, complex, and hollow items such as water tanks, kayaks, playground equipment, and storage containers. Rotomolding is known for its ability to produce parts with uniform wall thickness and excellent impact resistance. It is also a cost-effective method for producing low to medium volumes of plastic products, as the molds are relatively inexpensive compared to those used in injection molding. The range of plastics that can be rotomolded includes polyethylene, polypropylene, nylon, and PVC. The primary advantages of rotomolding include its simplicity, low tooling costs, ability to produce large parts, seamless construction, and good surface finish.
