Pricing is usually lower than standard roaming rates and may include fair-use limits, speed throttling after the allowance is consumed, or outright throttling. Activation is usually required before travel and can be completed via the operator’s app, website, or customer service.

Special case: in the European Union and European Economic Area, roaming rules have reduced or eliminated extra charges for using a home plan across member destinations, subject to fair-use limits; outside the EU/EEA, rates and terms vary by carrier and destination.

Other notes: roaming packages may restrict tethering, require certain device compatibility, or impose minimum service commitments. As alternatives, travelers may use eSIM-based options, purchase a local SIM, or select an international or travel SIM.
