Riwyah (also riwayah or riwāyah) is a term used in Arabic-language and Islamic scholarship to denote narration or transmission of reports. Derived from the triliteral root r-w-y, meaning to relate or tell, riwayah encompasses the act of recounting information as it is conveyed by witnesses, storytellers, or textual traditions.

In Islamic scholarship, riwayah refers to the transmission of a report through a chain of narrators (isnad) and the reporting of its text (matn). Scholars distinguish riwayah from dirayah, which concerns understanding, interpretation, and analysis of the report rather than its transmission. Compilers of hadith collections perform riwayah by collecting chains and narrations, with the aim of preserving authentic chains and assessing reliability.

More broadly, riwayah can mean a narrative or storyline in Arabic and related literary traditions, including folktales, biographies, and historical narratives. In everyday Urdu and Hindi usage, riwayat denotes a tale or tradition, and riwyah can appear as a transliteration variant in English-language texts. The term thus spans both specialized scholarly usage in hadith studies and general literary or narrative contexts.
