Ringsekvenser are a concept in abstract algebra, specifically within the study of rings. A ring sequence is a finite or infinite sequence of elements from a ring, denoted as (a_1, a_2, a_3, ...), where each a_i belongs to the ring R. These sequences are fundamental for understanding various properties of rings, particularly those related to ideals and chain conditions.

A common application of ring sequences is in the definition of ascending and descending chain conditions. An ascending chain of ideals in a ring R is a sequence of ideals I_1 \subseteq I_2 \subseteq I_3 \subseteq ... where each I_k is a subset of I_{k+1}. If this sequence stabilizes, meaning there exists an index N such that I_n = I_N for all n \ge N, then the ring satisfies the ascending chain condition (ACC) on ideals. Similarly, a descending chain of ideals is a sequence I_1 \supseteq I_2 \supseteq I_3 \supseteq ..., and if it stabilizes, the ring satisfies the descending chain condition (DCC) on ideals.

The study of ring sequences also extends to modules, which are generalizations of vector spaces where the scalars come from a ring instead of a field. Ring sequences play a role in defining chain conditions for submodules and can be used to characterize specific types of rings, such as Noetherian rings (which satisfy the ACC on ideals) and Artinian rings (which satisfy the DCC on ideals). Analyzing the behavior and convergence of these sequences provides deep insights into the structure and properties of the rings and modules they are derived from.
