Riboszómaépítés, also known as ribosome biogenesis, is the complex cellular process by which new ribosomes are synthesized. Ribosomes are essential molecular machines found in all living cells, responsible for protein synthesis. This intricate process involves the coordinated assembly of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and ribosomal proteins. In eukaryotes, ribosome biogenesis primarily occurs in the nucleolus, a specialized structure within the nucleus.

The journey begins with the transcription of ribosomal RNA genes. Large precursor rRNAs are synthesized and then processed through a series of enzymatic steps to generate the mature rRNA molecules that form the structural and catalytic core of the ribosome. Simultaneously, ribosomal proteins, encoded by nuclear genes, are synthesized in the cytoplasm and then imported into the nucleus.

Within the nucleolus, the rRNA molecules and ribosomal proteins associate to form nascent ribosomal subunits. These subunits are then exported from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, where they undergo further maturation and finally combine to form functional ribosomes, ready to translate messenger RNA into proteins. This entire process is highly regulated and requires the participation of numerous accessory factors and enzymes. Errors in ribosome biogenesis can lead to various cellular dysfunctions and are implicated in several human diseases, including developmental disorders and cancer.
